I'd love to see the portrait of your mother. I really love the old photos of people. With their style, hair, clothes, it even seems they had better skin. And always photogenic.
Have you been checking out some of the stock galleries. There are many great vintage photos on this site.
I'm actually a bit envious--my hs pic did not look that good.

Firstly, I thought it was a nice way of putting it, but secondly I wondered whether I have been guilty of disrespectful treatment of long-gone ancestors (people's mothers, fathers, children, lovers). I hope not - even when I'm being frivolous I feel a strange tenderness for the faces and the lost individuals, and I try to make up for the flippant comments by putting them in beautiful backgrounds.
